Making gil at the early levels of 1 to 10 can seem to be a very difficult and daunting task. Especially when people are selling the equipment that you need for a much higher price than it really should be. With this guide, you’ll learn the basics of making gil for all your early level needs!
First off, the most important thing to know is the gateway to making said gil. The Auction House! The Auction House (henceforth known as the AH) has 3 main options. Bid, which allows you to buy the various items on the AH, such Weapons, Armor, and Spells. Sell, which is what you’ll use to make gil. And Sales Status, which you can use to check whether or not your items have sold. Under Sales Status, the color of the items name will either be yellow or green. If green, that means it hasn’t sold. If yellow, it has.
In Windurst, the AH can be found at K-12 in Windurst Woods and at I-11 in Windurst Walls. In Bastok, it can be found at H-8 in Bastok Mines and E-8 in Bastok Markets. And in San d’Oria, at I-9 in Southern San d’Oria and at H-10 in Port San d’Oria.
The importance of signet and crystals
No matter what you’re doing, make sure that you talk to a guard by your nations gate and have them cast signet on you. Signet not only awards you Conquest points, which can later be used to get items that people will buy for a lot of gil, but it also allows you get get crystals dropped off of mobs. Crystals come in many varieties, and can be used to sell and craft. Between levels 1 and 10, you’ll mostly be selling them in stacks of 12 on the AH. Be sure to check the price history of the crystals before putting them up for sale. In later levels, though maybe as early as level 10, you can use crystals to begin crafting. But that’s information for a different post.

Other items
Crystals are by no means the only way of getting money early on. Many people will buy other items for crafting of their own, so with some patience and a little luck, you’ll be able to provide them with what they need.
Silk Thread
Silk thread is on of the most profitable items that someone at levels 1 to 10 can get. It drops from the crawlers in Sarutabaruta, but the highest drop rate comes from the Crawlers in West Sarutabaruta. Prices change from server to server, but a stack of Silk thread will usually sell for about 10 to 12k. With enough patience and luck, you’ll be rolling in gil.

Yagudo Necklaces
These necklaces drop from the Yagudos, also found in Sarutabaruta. You may want to save these and redeem them for Norg fame, but if you’re in need of money, you can usually sell them individually for about 500 gil on the AH. If you’re looking to level your clothcraft, you can combine a Yagudo Necklace and a Wind Crystal to create 3 Spools of Grass Thread. These can be a somewhat profitable item, depending on your servers economy.

Beehive Chips
Beehive Chips can be found on the mobs of the Bee family all around Vana’Diel. While they’re not as profitable as Silk Thread, a full stack can sell for about 3 or 4k, depending on your server. They’re a fairly common drop, a lot more so than Silk Thread. Apart from Yagudo Necklaces, Beehive Chips may be one of the best ways for a lower leveled person to make gil.

And when in doubt and in need of gil fast, never overlook the power of vendoring items. If you have a bunch of seemingly useless items that you’re almost positive you’ll never have a use for, sell them! It may not be a lot, but gil in your pocket is gil in your pocket.
Fish, fish, and fish
So you’ve done the above. You’re making pretty good profit and you think you’re doing pretty ok for yourself. But, you’ve left one other opportunity untapped. The craft of fishing. While fishing may be one of the toughest, most frustrating crafts to level, it can definitely be the most profitable crafts at early levels.
First, you want to get about 11k or so, depending on your server. Once you’ve accumulated the gil using the above methods, you’ll want to buy a Halcyon Fishing rod off of the AH under Weapons > Ammo & Misc. > Fishing Gear. After getting the rod, you’ll want bait. Make sure to buy as many stacks of Insect Balls you can. Once you’re fully geared up, make your way to Windurst, as that is one of the best fishing spots for early levels.

Once in a good spot, like Windurst Woods, equip the rod in the ranged slot and the Insect balls in the ammo slot. Start fishing. Every now and then, you’ll catch a gold carp. VENDOR THESE. They go for about 300 gil and are very good profit for early levels. They basically pay for the bait. You’ll find that your normal catches consist of Moat Carps. When you get a full stack, you can sell them on the AH for about 2k, depending on the server.

And with that, I’ll wrap up the Gil Making guide for levels 1 to 10. Just remember to follow the things said in this guide and you’ll be raking in gil like it’s no ones business. Levels 1 to 10 can be the hardest time to make gil, as it gets easier once you get into the higher levels. Just be patient and work hard and you’ll get the hang of things. Good luck and happy hunting!
